After taking a huge hit to its breeding and production stock as a result of the lightening spread of African Swine Fever over the last 20 months, Vietnam has had to look to other sources for pork, by far the majority of the red meat diet of the country. A new commercial association in Vietnam called the Vietnam Trade Alliance has committed its members to the purchase of at least US $500,000,000 in pork products from the United States through 2023.
Last year, the US exported almost $7 Billion of pork products worldwide, an all-time record, and an increase of 9% over the previous year. This new deal will add to the growing export demand on US production, which in turn will significantly assist pork producers.
