Animal agriculture producers are all to aware of the negative impact diseases can have.  In the last decade, the US livestock industry has suffered heavily at the hands of HPAI, PEDv and PRRS.  But the worst are still offshore - African Swine Fever and Foot & Mouth Disease, or better known as ASF and FMD, respectively.

Large amounts of research have been performed to determine the best ways to mitigate the risks of the diseases being transmitted to North America, but much is still to be done.  Due to the ongoing rapid spread of ASF elsewhere, particularly Asia, the sense of urgency is real and resulting in practical research being conducted at a frantic pace.  For FMD, effective vaccines do exist, but not anywhere near large enough in quantity.  The article linked below the next picture articulates the FMD vaccine position.
